Donate to Charity

1. It is wise to donate to charity through a registered organization.

Individuals or businesses should only make contributions after checking for registry at the local charity registration office or the Better Business Bureau. A legitimate non profit organization will be able to provide you with how your donation will be used, proof that the donation is tax deductible, the institution's mission, and their financial information. In order to track your contribution, it is best to give by a check payable to the non profit organization. Find out if the institution is a legitimate 501 (C)(3) organization. This will ensure tax deductions at year end.

2. If you donate to charity it is always tax deductible.

If you give to a charitable institution it may not be tax deductible. When a company is considered tax exempt, it means the company does not have to pay taxes. It does not necessarily mean that a donation to any charitable organization will be tax deductible. Therefore, it is best to find out from your financial advisor or tax accountant if you want to give an item and use that charity donation for a tax deduction. In order to count gifts on income taxes one must obtain a statement from the organization with the total amount given for the year.

3. Charity malls are a way to donate to charity while shopping online.

Malls that accept contributions are growing as the Internet expands. An online charity mall gets a sales commission for referrals. A portion of the sales commission goes to the organization that the giver chooses to click on and support.

4. A charity donation can save children from poverty.

Certain contributions to children's programs can save a child's life from poverty. Children in every country can be helped through a variety of charitable organizations. Sponsored children can benefit from quality education, school, health and nutrition programs.

5. A charity donation should be given in public as an example to others.

Matthew 6:3-4 - But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
