Charity Auction
|
Charity auctions are a fun way to raise money for special causes and are most commonly used among large companies or corporations. Companies may allow bids for their own products to underwrite a charitable project such as a toy maker auctioning off toys signed by celebrities or a movie company auctioning off props and autographed movie memorabilia. Events such as these have proven to be well attended, very exciting and highly lucrative. Whatever the items offered, all proceeds from a charity auction will go towards helping some non-profit cause such as assisting the victims of hurricanes or earthquakes, seeking cures for diseases, or sheltering the poor.
People most often get involved in these types of events for two reasons: they are either interested in the cause or the items being offered. Typically, individuals are interested in what is being auctioned off but of course, do not mind helping a legitimate cause. The great thing about charity auctions is that if someone will buy it, it can be part of a money raising event. People are known to donate many types of items to a charity auction ranging from books to boats. Some events can raise money into the millions while others may sell one item online for twenty five dollars.
For those who would like to organize a profitable event, it's not impossible. Small business owners may have something special to donate from their businesses. A small printing company could offer for bid a year's supply of copy paper to raise money for a local children's hospital. Any individual can hold a charity auction. A local artist could offer his or her paintings to benefit some needy project. Online auctions can even be held on major websites that specialize in these activities for little or no fees. Organizers who would rather hold an event locally can work with home companies and can promote it through the local newspapers.
An auction event tends to benefit everyone involved which accounts for its growing popularity worldwide. Companies receive media attention, high bidders purchase great stuff, and charities obtain much needed funds to underwrite a specific project. Before bidding on items in charity auctions, make sure that the sponsoring companies and the events held are legitimate. Also, be sure that the non-profit organization is one that is worthy of support as well as morally appropriate. Overall, enjoy the experience and remember what Jesus said, "Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matthew 25:40)
