Mechanical Engineering Degrees
|
Mechanical engineering degree programs are concerned with the design, construction, and operation of power plants, engines, and machines; dealing mostly with things that move. Mechanical engineering has a leading role in technological advancements, and the degrees are highly sought after. The median job salary for those holding this diploma, with little to no experience, ranges from 40K-50k depending on location. With experience that range is increased. In order to start on the core courses, a student must have mastered the art of mathematics into the advanced calculus level. Engineers heavily rely on mathematics which is a knowledge that leaves many others confused with the magnitude of the trade. "arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them" (Jeremiah 1:17).
After obtaining this degree, a graduate will work on power-producing machines such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines. Mechanical engineering degree graduates will also develop power-using machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, machine tools, material handling systems, elevators and escalators, industrial production equipment, and robots used in manufacturing. Mechanical engineering degrees enable graduates to also design tools that other engineers need for their work. The field of nanotechnology, which involves the creation of high-performance materials and components by integrating atoms and molecules, is bringing in completely new principles to the process of design.
Computers assist these graduates by correctly performing computations, and by allowing the modeling and simulation of new designs in addition to facilitating changes to existing designs. CAD or Computer-Aided Design and CAM or Computer-Aided Manufacturing are used for design data processing and for switching the design into a product. With new technology constantly being discovered, those with mechanical engineering degrees will be needed to operate the equipment. Even though computers are used for complex calculations, it is still mandatory that engineers with these degrees know and utilize advanced mathematics skills.
Mechanical engineering degree graduates work in many industries, and the work varies by industry and function. Some specialize in energy systems; applied mechanics; automotive design; manufacturing; materials; plant engineering and maintenance; pressure vessels and piping; and heating, refrigeration, and air-conditioning systems. The mechanical field is the broadest engineering discipline. These graduates may work in production operations, manufacturing, agriculture, maintenance, or technical sales. Many who hold mechanical engineering degrees are administrators or managers. More than half of the jobs were in manufacturing or machinery, transportation equipment, computer and electronic products, and fabricated metal products industries. Architectural, engineering, and related services and the Federal Government provided many of the remaining jobs.
