Scholarships For High School Students
|
There are literally thousands of scholarships for high school students and they range from as little as a hundred dollars to twenty five thousand dollars a year for four years. These scholarships are offered by civic clubs, individuals, large corporations, churches, banks and small businesses and dozens of other sources including many non-profits especially set up just for this purpose. Many of these scholarships are geographically specific, meaning that the recipients must either be the student of a specific school or the resident of a specific town or state. In general, a person may have to check literally with every civic club and every non-profit in the area in which he or she lives to ascertain any locally offered scholarships for high school students. It is very possible that these scholarships from local entities are not mentioned anywhere on the Internet. But there are some clearinghouses in the form of websites that may open the door to over a million scholarships from across the country.
Since strange scholarships are always fun to read about, let's get those out of the way first. The Klingon Language Institute offers a five hundred dollar scholarship to a student who will be majoring in language studies. Go to kli.org for more details and at crg.org, a person can find out about five thousand dollar scholarships for vegetarians. Be careful, if you sneak a hamburger once in a while, they just may find out about it! Those males over six two and females over five eight can apply to Tall Clubs for their one thousand dollar gifts so look at www.tall.org for more information. And for those who heavier than normal, there are two scholarships available from the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance. Go to naafa.org for more information, but if you are on a diet, forget it!
A number of the scholarships for high school students involve the writing of essays. Essays that offer concrete answers to societal issues may win a one thousand dollar award and a person can go to scholarships.com and look at the Resolve to Evolve information. The American Foreign Service Association offers large awards to high school students on the basis of an essay they must write so go to afsa.org for more information. There are so many thousands of places to go on the Internet to find out about various awards, so begin very early in your high school career finding out how to navigate this amazing maze of information. If a person waits until he is a senior, it will almost be too late.
Often times various providers of scholarships for high school students may ask for the same essay subject to be written on and this can be a huge time saver for many students. Send that essay in to a number of different suppliers of educational money who are asking for the same essay subject. But this takes time to research the thousands of awards being offered and their required essay subject, so don't wait until the last minute, this idea won't work then. Often, former essay winners are named and their submissions are posted at various providers of scholarships for high school students which means that it is possible to go and read the type of writing and ideas that their award committees liked in the past. Waiting until the last minute isn't a good idea for trying to secure award money for college expenses, and neither is the idea of putting off one's commitment to Jesus Christ until the last moment. Speaking of Jesus' instantaneous return someday soon the Bible says, "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound and the dead will be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed." Those incredible things will happen that quickly when Christ returns and there will be no time for repentance and remorse.
One thing is for certain: the higher the award amount, the more competition there will be for getting that prize. Small two or three hundred dollar awards may seem too small for many people to even spend time applying for, so that might be one strategy to employ. Go after a number of the smaller scholarships for high school students. In fact, why spend time on any award for which a person doesn't really qualify. After all, if your GPA is 2.8 and the stipulation for a particular award is 3.0 or higher, you probably won't be considered unless you have a killer essay and a resume of community activities a mile long. One of the things that must be considered when applying for scholarships for high school students is the length of time it will take to complete all of the requirements. So a very blunt assessment of your time will be necessary and this is a huge reason why your search for educational funds should begin when you are a freshman and not wait until the junior or senior year.
If you have your heart set on getting a particular award among the many scholarships for high school students, don't assume that just because the award was there last year that the award will once again be offered this year. There have been instances in which a student actually called up a scholarship provider and cursed them out for not providing the money in the year that he needed it. Yikes! Just remember, this money isn't yours until it's awarded and people and committees can change their minds any time and place they desire, so cool your jets. Thank the scholarship provider if the award is not being given this year and move on to the next award.
