Vitamins

1. Vitamins are complex molecules essential for normal growth and activity of the human body.

True
They contribute to the storage and release of energy and maintain the blood, nerves and bones. Water-soluble vitamins are stored and carried by the water that is constantly being lost in urine, sweat, and other body fluids, so they need to be replaced daily. They can help your vision, build red blood cells, prevent disease, and perform many other tasks within the body.

2. The body can supply any vitamin by itself.

False
The body can only supply D and K by itself. K is synthesized by bacteria in the intestine. D is created by the skin when it's exposed to sunlight. Even though the body does not produce it, vitamin C is very important in order for the body to complete many important functions.

3. It is healthy to take vitamins in extra doses.

False
Taking any kind of medicine in extra doses is a bad idea. Taking an excess can cause bad side effects. Taking a vitamin in excess has been known to cause kidney or liver damage, hair loss, hardening of soft tissues and other undesirable effects. Taking these should be done in moderation and by following the directions given by the doctor, pharmacist, or on the bottle. It is important to use them to help the body and not misuse them in a way that they will cause more harm than good.

4. Vitamin C helps to boost the immune system.

True
Vitamin C can heal wounds, contribute to the formation of cells, tissues, teeth and bones and boost the individual's immune system. It can be taken in pills or in food or drink substances. Orange juice is a popular drink that supplies this. Drinking orange juice can be a very good way to give the body a boost in the morning with this essential ingredient.

5. Taking vitamins is a way to take care of our bodies.

True
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
