Dog Health Insurance

Dog health insurance can be purchased to cover a variety of health needs a canine may require throughout its life and can save the canine owner a tremendous amount of money in medical expenses. A pet policy can be bought through an agency website online, through the use of a facsimile or through the regular postal mail. The policyholder is able to see any veterinarian worldwide with the security of knowing that their medical expenses will be covered. Most dog medical insurance companies have policy owners submit receipts for reimbursement.

The canine owner and policyholder will seek the services of any Vet. At that time, they will pay out of pocket for the Vet's services. An authorized staff member will need to fill out a dog medical insurance claim form, list the diagnosis, and sign it. The dog health insurance policyholder will then review the claim form, sign it, and send it into the agency with the original Vet invoice for reimbursement of payment. It is wise for the canine owner and policyholder to make a photocopy of the invoice in case the claim form and invoice should get lost in the mail. The type of dog health insurance plan chosen will determine the amount of payment reimbursement.

The policyholder can individually develop their pet's policy paying higher premiums for more coverage and more types of ailments that are covered. Some policyholders pay as little as $1 per day for policies that reimburse them 50% of the cost of treatment. The national average for veterinarians' fees provides the basis for reimbursements. Some dog medical insurance plans pay up to 90% of the expense coverage amount. There are also discounts given for multi-pet policies, and for early issuance of a policy (enrolling the animal in a dog health insurance plan while under 6 months of age).

Some Christians are apprehensive about the purchase of dog medical insurance. They may feel that the purchase of a policy for their pet shows their lack of faith in God and His ability to protect and provide for them. While the Bibles does not mention the issue of purchasing a plan for a pet, it does mention the idea of being prepared for future disaster and catastrophe. If it is financially feasible to purchase a pet policy, it is recommended. "And let them gather all the food of those good years...And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine." (Genesis 41:35-36)
