Acting School

Acting school is an institution for learning the trade of acting, drama and of any other performance art subject in great detail using many hands-on learning workshops. Acting schools are located in most major cities within our nation and around the world. There are various types and some are private institutions serving adult students, while others specialize in training children. One may also have instructors available to give private lessons to a student in their own home.

Some are accredited by the Higher Education Council and offer degrees in such areas as dramatics, theatre studies, acting for film and television and a host of other majors including graduate programs. Certificates are offered in specialized areas such as singing, for those that do not desire to undertake the entire course requirements in the degree programs. Specialty acting workshops are also offered from private smaller acting schools. An acting school workshop can last for one day or for an entire summer.

A program located abroad may interest some students. An International acting school offers much more in the area of cultural dramatics, and can be an excellent option for students who desire to learn multicultural instruction techniques and religious heritages. "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only" (James 1:22). Summer acting schools also offer accelerated specific instruction and are available for all ages across the country. Most if not all put on productions in order to have the student gain as much real experience as possible. It can be a wonderful place to attend a production in order to experience raw talent and examples of various dramatic techniques.

A dramatic educational facility can also be a place to send members of a drama ministry to learn invaluable skills for producing church productions. Some churches send entire drama ministries to an acting school workshop in the fall to prepare for the Christmas drama season. Many workshops and seminars are offered at annual drama ministry conferences. There are some film schools that offer classes and/or a major, but these are limited in number as the film schools tend to focus largely on the technological aspects of creating a production. Training is an important aspect of an actor's ability to perform on the stage or in film and television. Choosing the right school should involve discovering what each institution has to offer and comparing it with future goals. If the goal is achieved, it can provide a wonderful and fulfilling hobby or career.
