VoIP Telephones

VoIP telephony is a form of telecommunication that transmits digital audio signals through broadband Internet connection from one computer to another. Through the use of VoIP telephones that operate from broadband connection or through computer software that processes the transmission, voice over Internet protocol is the brightest star on the horizon of global telecommunications. No longer is VoIP the little known servant of large corporations who realized its money saving capabilities several years ago, but it is fast becoming an option for typical households that have three kids and a dog!

Typical land line phones transmit analog voice data from sender to receiver and have long been the communication of choice for years. Not until the late 1990s when the first VoIP telephony system was rigged together by hobbyists, did the world have a chance to use another option for phone calls. The first voice over Internet protocol system was developed out of a need to communicate from computer to computer since landline phones were not reasonable choices because of long distance costs and accessibility. Seizing on the potential of this small, in house venture, one company picked up the idea and began to development it further for the open marketplace.

Since that time, technological advancement has continued to grow as more commercial interests have taken on the future of this communications "miracle." "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them." (Ecclesiastes 12:1) VoIP telephony is relatively simple to understand in terms of usage and transmission. A sending computer breaks analog voice data into digital signals through packets. These audio packets are transmitted along DSL or cable connections to the target computer any where in the world.

When it arrives, the packets are reassembled into fluid voice transmissions that provide clear, crisp audio reception to the listener. Anyone who has access to broadband connection has the potential to use VoIP telephones providing he or she has the right equipment. A computer, an adapter and voice over Internet service provider is all the typical household needs to get up and running with the newest communication option available. As mentioned earlier, corporations have been using VoIP telephony for several years since its introduction to the public, but the option is now fast becoming available to small businesses, organizations and households on a continual basis. The issue of convergence has further made it possible for voice over Internet protocol to easily incorporate the use of the Internet and typical phone features.

This has made it especially appealing to businesses that have phone systems like a PBX system that can be modified to work with voice over Internet protocol systems. There are many advantages to converting to this type of telecommunication option for almost everyone. Cost has long been an issue with traditional telephone companies as long distance calls have been continually hiked over the years and consumers have felt the budget bite of global calls. VoIP telephones offer a way to significantly lower anyones international and long distance calls. Long distance calls can be lowered as much as 50% from traditional landline calls when using voice over Internet protocol systems. It is cheaper to send digital audio signals over the Internet that it is for analog data to be transferred through landlines.

The mammoth networking that is necessary to implement, maintain and further advance traditional telephone systems is quite costly as most consumers will testify. The natural conclusion is to opt for this newest method of calling since many businesses and private homes already have broadband connection. Why pay for an exorbitant phone bill when a call can be made through the computer? Another benefit to using VoIP telephony is the advanced audio quality of sending and reception. In the early stages of the technology, audio quality was poorer and resulted in echoes or delayed transmissions. That is not an issue any longer as technology has been developed to correct this anomaly. Someone in New York can make a long distance call to someone in Singapore very easily and cost effectively.

Clarity and cost have become non-issues for consumers of voice over Internet protocol systems. Setting up voice over Internet protocol is relatively easy and service is not hard to find in areas that already have broadband connection. Most services that specialize in VoIP telephones are very reasonable and charge a low, monthly fee. Most customers are very pleased with the quality, service and simplicity of use that is afforded through voice over Internet protocol phones. Now is the time to get in on one of the most explosive and phenomenal cultural and technological changes to come along in a long time. Talk cheap, hear clearly and ride the technological wave into the future.
