Mental health disorders range widely from just past being shy to institutional situations and in most cases treatment options are available through medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes. The diagnosis of sickness in the mind is controversial and heavily weighs on the opinions of the patient himself. While feelings of discomfort when public speaking may cause sweating and other adverse effects, some doctors would consider this normal. On the other hand, some doctors might write a series of prescriptions in order to control these behaviors. In the end, the mental illness treatments chosen must improve the existing problem. New medications are available every day that treat symptoms previously thought to be normal. Over drugging people simply out of convenience is a problem doctors and patients must face.

Understanding the reasoning for such feelings can guide a person toward proper mental illness treatments and even teach him or her how to avoid such situations. Not all situations that cause anxiety can be avoided, but a learned way of thinking when in those situations is possible. Many organizations have formed in response to the overwhelming need of psychological support without the great cost. Finding an organization that fulfills the needs of a person without costing much can be difficult to decide. Even talking with a good friend can help mental health disorders, but the professional knowledge will not be available thus creating a weak support system. A good association or organization will be interested in continued research and money collected through dues or donations will be spent on research or awareness. Local support is equally important for this route of mental illness treatments. A great organization can inform people how to live a full life with a certain disease, but if there isn't anyone to support daily efforts the cause may be lost. Weekly meetings, monthly meetings, mentorship, or a physical location for relaxation and education may be some options available through these organizations.

Designing a home around relaxation and functionality will help alleviate stress by making a person more time efficient and therefore more confident. The color blue creates a psychologically calming effect in any environment even when a person cannot physically feel it. Likewise, calming and appealing pictures on the walls and wherever the eye draws to will further relax and comfort a person. Reducing clutter will reduce stress, which in turns changes a person's life for the good of all situations. Asking a friend to help sort clutter is a way to be productive without feeling threatened by professionals or even family members. Even if the clutter simply moves to the garage for a short time, at least it will be out of the main living space. Focus on the ultimate goal of stress reduction and efficient time management will aid in the release of material objects that may be restricting a person's life. Comfort and stress reduction at home can lead to better work performance and success in social situations. Techniques toward a reduced stress life include: limited responsibilities focus only on important issues, and relaxation. When evaluating current responsibilities, consider whether it is truly needed. This type of evaluation will inevitably lead a person to making decisions of what is truly important in their life.

Mental Illness Recovery

Mental illness recovery was not generally thought to be possible until the last few decades when many who were ensnared in the depths of emotional and mental anguish began making remarkable recoveries from seemingly hopeless personal black holes. For centuries, the belief was that mental illness under various symptomatic names was chronic and therefore hopeless. Sadly, countless individuals were separated from family and society, placed in stark and often dank institutions for the rest of their lives. But thanks to a new generation of medications and an enlightened medical community, patients who once were deemed bound for a lifetime of just existing are coming back into society's mainstream and making positive contributions. While not everyone "recovers" from severe neural illness, there is enough anecdotal evidence to suggest that many can indeed live with and control their illness with success.

When the discussion of serious neural illness is initiated, there are certain illnesses that come to the fore in the conversation such as major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar, obsessive compulsive, panic, post traumatic stress and borderline personality disorders. These illnesses are not race based nor are they economically discriminate. They have nothing to do with one's intelligence and are based in brain and biologic disorders. Neural illness recovery doesn't occur when someone grits his or her teeth and wills it to occur. One can think of recovery as being free of the illness as one might be free of cancer, but in most every case, 'recovery" is more about learning to live with the disorder.

Mental illness recovery is based on a number of factors that must take place in order for coping skills and self realization to take place. The number of components in recovery is not small in number and they are often things that those who are unafflicted with these disorders might take for granted. For example, the amount of sleep a person gets is a huge factor in mental illness recovery, and living in an environment that is noisy or disruptive certainly impinges on the healing process. Things such as a diet limited in everyday stimulants such as sugar and caffeine can be important as well as the availability of the patient to receive transportation to and from treatment. The easy access to transportation is something often taken for granted but not always present. And of course, supportive friends and family is a paramount component in getting better and experiencing some modicum of healing from neuro disorders. Sadly, many who suffer such neural disease are shunned by family and friends are few and far between.

For many who have major depressive mental disorders, the negative reaction of family and society to them early on brought a sense of despair to their lives. Feeling shunned and abandoned can produce a never ending sense of despondency and hopelessness so part of the recovery process has to be the placement of hope in the life of the patient. Medication is also a huge part of the ongoing therapy for mental illness recovery, and the drug therapy process is usually an ongoing experiential development that may take years to get right. When the patient and the doctor have a real partnership relationship in the ongoing quest to find a working medication protocol, the chances for mental illness recovery increase dramatically. "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me and ye shall go and pray unto me and I will hearken unto you." (Jeremiah 29: 11, 12)

Mental health experts are quick to point out that in addition to medication and hope being important key components in mental disorder healing, support from family and friends is also paramount. In fact, there are no unimportant pieces to the mental illness recovery puzzle. The most successful cases of healing come from those persons who have the most help and love from family and friends. Oftentimes, while old friends may abandon a person with a mental disorder, new friends can be gained through peer group therapy where real understanding and even accountability is garnered. Since group therapy is almost always part of the healing process, the effect of these encounters cannot be minimized. In addition to hope, medication and support groups, turning to spiritual help also is a common theme among many who report remarkable healing for their mental disorder. Being able to trust God for everyday victories and accomplishments has been reported as being a very large factor in the recovery process.
